    Default Gamer or Modeler

Ok guys...I have noticed over the past couple of years...and especially recently...having to deal with events as they are and rebuild my precious APOC army to it's former glory, that there are basically two types of people in this hobby...(there is a third but they are usually few and far between and yes some even reside here)

On one side you have the Gamers...people who will buy the kits...slap em together with what ever's at hand, cover them in god knows what and call it a paint job...just to field an army...Most Gamers I know don't care what it looks like as long as they have it on the field...most of these individuals are youngsters so I have to allow for the ignorance and inexperience of youth...

On the other side there are the modelers...people who painstakingly and lovingly trim each bit of flash, etch out each mold line and assemble a near perfect replica of what is shown on the box...then carefully (and mostly after much consideration) take hours applying an even, streak free, and well blended coat of paint to finish off their newest master peice...Most modelers I know go even further and figure ways to make each kit unique and even embelish them with things like magnets and metal rods to make the hinges work or to be able to swap out that weapon for another...

I am bringin this to light as I know we have all seen and dealt with people of various types and levels...I am learning it more and more simply from having to deal with several modelers who's "awesome job" turns out to be blobs of superglue and weapons sponsons and turrets glued in place...
Mind you I am not judging but it is obvious from what I have seen of late that these people defiantely are and they are poor judges at best...

I have been building model kits since I was 6 years old...I have been kit bashing and scratch building since I was 12...and I have been Wargamming since I was 14...for those of you who can't do the math...that means I have been doing this for 37/38 years...longer than many of you have been alive...I am both a gamer AND a modeler in the sense that I will not compromise QUALITY just to shove a bunch of half assed models on the game table...even though I love the hobby...and the thrill of the hunt...

So just for arguements sake...when I say that something isn't worth what you want for it...or what I have is worth more...I am not just blowing smoke up your fifth point of contact...I MEAN what I say...and am usually right about it in the end...

SO what do you think...which catagory do you fall under...??...

I completely agree!!! BTW I am a Modeller. (recently began gamng) I have been teased by a few people, looking at you Capitano, about my Grey Orks. Then they see the painted ones (plus the other armies Im painting) and understand. I typically spend about 10 hours on a group of 5 boyz! Im sure this is overkill, but no matter which mini you pick up, youll be impressed!
    So much to paint....

i phased out of the gaming part ages ago. but i still enjoy a game from time to time.
but I'm more of a modeler. but lean more towards the assembly and far away from painting as i personally don't like it much. but that is to change as i will try and do try new things with the unpainted models every time i get in the hobby.
but my hobby burns out real quick when painting and it only takes one mistake for a rage in me to pack it away and not look at them for months at a time.

There are gamers, modelers, hybrid, internet junkies, rules lawyers, haha etc etc.

    Lets start brainstorming stereotypes hahaha.

I'm personally, well i use to be a gamer, but if i get back into action i'm gaming.

Modeler with a desperate need to transform that into gaming. These things are too good to give anything less than your best effort to. I does tend to mean that I take a VERY long time to get a reasonable sized army together. Gotta find a compromise but am unwilling to.

Modeler. I game about 4 times a month, somtimes more. Most of my friends are gamers, and it irks them I take so much time to build and paint, but hey, I didn't spend mucho cash to build crappy minis. If my minis are crappy, it's from lack of skill, not rushing. Really gets under my skin that most of my friends have a lot of modeling talent, but choose to slop them together. Two of the sloppiest are also the most skilled with sculpting (which I suck at), I mean they can make almost anything out of green stuff, but won't shave mold lines. Grrrr.

I tend to be a bit of a hybrid though I lean more towads a modeller. I love gaming but to me the point of the game is to have fun and immerse yourself and your army in the lore. I love the strategy and tactics the game offers but what really got me hooked and keeps me going at it are the awesome models that just keep getting better and better. I try to tell a story with each of my models and I love putting that extra bit of detail on even my line infantry that sets them apart. I have been building models in some form or another since I was 6 (like wolfpack, though I'm considerably younger... but thats still a little more than 2/3 of my life...) and I think the one thing thats really cool about this hooby is that there are both aspects. I use gaming as a bit of motivation to have a really well done army, bc theres nothing cooler than going to a game and having everyone be like "wow look at those," be well hey its cool to know that Im not the only one who thinks they look badass sitting on my self. I also find modelling to be a great way to make the game your own, bc well the best way to make it come alive is to make your models come alive.

    Thats my take,

LOL...ok so why do you suck?...ROTFLMAO...

come on guys...I know that you are all a little more intelligent than the jovial one liner...As for hybrids...that would be the third choice I mentioned...but one must admit they are few and far between...I mean think about it...I know gamers that because of the hobby have become fair modelers...and I know modelers that because of the design of the miniatures have made their way in to the gaming aspect as well...are these individuals considered Hybrids?...or have they just upped the anty so to speak...

These 'hybrids' would by definition have to be equally skilled on both sides of the coin...

I actually got into the hobby because of the gaming aspect, and I still love to battle, just don't have as much time as I want. If I had to choose gaming or modeling, I'd probably go with modeling 85% of the time. I think that if I could find more cool people to play with, I'd battle more, but usually it's just me and a few friends, and sometimes that gets a little boring.
