Angry I think I'm being Scammed!!!

I will apoligize first of all because this has nothing to do with warhammer or any other game. I have been trying to sell my old Alienware Comp on craigslist and i have gotten quite a few responses. I said in the ad that i would accept payment through paypal and to my astonishment i have recieved countless replys requesting me to ship it to Nigeria (I'm thinking scam when i see this) So i tell the poeople in the e-mail that i will not ship untill payment is confirmed and i get an e-mail that looks like its from paypal saying that in order to recieve payment i need to provide a tracking number. Can anyone tell me if this is true or am i being scammed? I plan on calling paypal tonight when i get off work, however i just wanted to know what you all think. Thanks

Do not ship your old computer to Nigeria. Remember that computers have sensitive personal information on you. Someone with the knowhow can recover all of this information.

Paypal has never done so to me. Might be worth finding another outlet for selling your goods, mate.

I think just the fact that its being 'shipped to Nigeria' brings plenty of suspicion. I wouldn't ship.

sounds like a scam. If Paypal *did* in fact send a request for tracking info then they did something with a fraud claim saying they paid and you didn't ship. Odd...

Definitely DO NOT SHIP until you have cash IN HAND, not laying in PayPal. As soon as it hits Paypal, remove it to either your banking account or however you move it off of PayPal.

Why is it always Nigeria? Why not pick another country?

It must be hard for legit business' in Nigeria to function.
People would constantly say no to there business thinking it is a scam. In case though I think a scam.

Thanks to all who responded, I was able to contact paypal yesterday and their scam team is now tracking all of the e-mails (don't know how much good that will do). But at least I still have my laptop!

Paypal ALWAYS use your full name when adressing you in emails, First name and Last name. If they don't, it is definitely not from them. They say this in one of their emails when you first sign up.

Anytime you sell an item you require payment first - particularly when dealing with high dollar items.

You need to open paypal directly and look to see if you've received any forms of payment for this item recently. You also need to report that other email to paypal as a potential phishing scam.

There is no "well maybe... it's legit" in this case. A few months ago someone from "UK" tried to "procure my services as a driver." They sent me a $3000 check and asked me to forward $2500 of it to another address.

Had I done that, I would've been defrauded, and a participant in a fraud. It doesn't help that the bank system is setup to NOT make it possible for a person to discern if something is fraudulent or not with ease.

It started on craigslist too - and if you look at the cars + trucks auto section you'll find many posts which are con's. $2000 for a $20000 car? And it uses the same pictures from another post for the same type of car by a different seller? Sure!

I agree with everything you said except above what I quoted.

People with a much higher trade rating should NOT send payment before an item is recieved.

How many people have been ripped off on fellow trade sites by paying first to a user with ZERO or such a lower trade number.

Example. My rating is what 34? Why would I send payment first to a seller with a rating of 8? Thats risky on my part.

Anf FYI, the_trader, who ripped off at leasy 6 sites for thousands of dollars built up a few good trades before scamming.

So to sum up, DO NOT SEND MONEY TO SOMEONE WITH A SUPER LOW RATING. Unless that is, you have no rating or its lower then theirs.

Just my opinion that I dont feel like getting flamed for.
